Dwarf Calamondin Orange Seedling

Calamondin is well suited to indoor growing. Flowers and fruit can appear at any time regardless of the season, giving the tree year-round ornamental appeal.

Container-grown Calamondin trees can be kept to about 6 feet in height with proper pruning.

The first blooms and fruits appear when the plant is about two years old. Harvest fruits when half ripe and just beginning to show color. The small acid-flavored orange edible fruit is about 1 inch in diameter and has a sweet-tasting, thin, smooth peel resembling a small tangerine.

Calamondin juice can be used as a substitute for lemon or lime juice in iced tea, seafood and meat. Freeze it in ice cube trays to make calamondinade. The fruits can be sliced and boiled with cranberries to make a tart sauce. A delicious marmalade can be made using calamondins alone, combining them with an equal quantify of kumquats, or adding fresh ginger. If you have a dehydrator, you can even make calamondin candy from the whole fruits!
